Carving out your own way as an entrepreneur is one of the most rewarding experiences, but, it’s not for the faint of heart. If you aren’t ready for some of the hurdles that are sure to come your way, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and buckle under the pressure.
One of the most important things you can do as an aspiring or long-time business owner is work on developing the mindset of a winner. The mental game is where it all starts. Developing and nurturing a strong, entrepreneurial attitude will help you crush your goals and weather stormy waters.
All of this is more than just feel-good, empty babble. There is a multitude of scientific data showing the power of being positive and self-assured. For example, a study published by Psychological Bulletin shows us that it’s happiness that leads us to success, not the other way around. Another study, out of the University of Kentucky, reveals being able to deal with stress short-term, boosts your immune system and helps build coping mechanisms. But, if that stress is allowed to stick around long-term, it can destroy your body.
With all this in mind, what can you start doing today to build a killer head-game?
A great habit to get into is waking up with a morning affirmation. If you’re unfamiliar, an affirmation is a positive message you give yourself. It’s best to do this first thing in the morning. Taking in and applying a positive statement before you start your day can go a long way in making you feel completely ready for anything.
An affirmation can be anything. Write your own, or check out this list to get some ideas and get started!
Maintaining a feeling of gratitude in life is an incredibly worthwhile objective to chase. When your baseline state-of-mind is being grateful, everything else becomes a lot easier. On the one hand, these feelings keep you motivated and allow you to easily recognize and discover new, positive opportunities for yourself. On the other hand, maintaining a feeling of gratitude helps keep your head up through the tough times and allows you to persevere, coming out the other end that much stronger.
A way you can start a practice of gratitude is by taking notes of positive interactions or experiences you have throughout your day. Meditating for a few moments in the morning on things in your life you are most happy for is another excellent exercise.
Curiosity is an incredibly beneficial trait to have (or adopt) for so many reasons. Being curious leads to learning new skills and makes you a better problem-solver. You’ll find yourself asking more questions, figuring out why things work the way they do.
Besides the obvious advantages of learning and problem-solving; studies show a feeling of curiosity is vital to personal growth and is even beneficial for building relationships. Start asking, “Why?” Dig into new territory and never stop learning.
There are a lot of “self-_____” type traits you’ll run into when talking about starting a business and being an entrepreneur. The core of all these is being self-driven.
After identifying your objective, you need to be completely determined and driven to do whatever it takes to accomplish your goals. Driven entrepreneurs, with a great mindset, are able to push themselves and people around them past limitations and onto success.
Stop thinking about how much time you are putting into your projects or your business and start thinking in terms of objectives. Write down some of your goals you’d like to accomplish. Keep your goals specific, realistic, and measurable. Having an iron-clad mindset is the foundation, but, it’s not going to get you anywhere unless you have a plan.
Take Action and Commit
You have the mindset, and you have a plan… Now, take action and commit to your goal. Ideas are great, but nothing gets done without execution. Sounds basic, and, for the most part, it is. Unfortunately, you won’t get far at all with just your ideas, no matter how awesome they are. If you can’t manifest your visions into reality, your ideas will just remain dreams.
